Imagoturgia, imago in érgon.

I created a word that did not exist, Imagoturgy. A neologism to better individuate a function, to process dramaturgy and image side by side, the one slipping into the other, both transforming into a physical work with and inside the body of the actor. Imagoturgy, imago in érgon. In Greek érgon is close in meaning to “work”, but at the same time it has a narrower and wider meaning. Érgon indicates the labour of workers and athletes but it also indicates operating in itself, being in act, at work, of an inanimate or animate thing. Seeing is the érgon of the eyes, being loved and respected is the érgon of mankind. When our sensitive actors recreate a text, gestures, movements, relations, which is the érgon of the image? The eye of a camera refracts what is in front of it, the dimension of the soul, of what soul should be, the darkroom of vision and feelings, of memory, of dreams. The eye of those who watch inside this eye imprints the unshaped matter that screams for liberation. It gradually hammers the hard shell of the supposed disease, down to the centre. The image-sculpture expands, then, through the film tableau, re-conquering hardness and beauty, thus certifying the possibility of theatrical art not to be already dead in the cage of the theatrical institution. Without sentimentalisms, but shaped by feelings, image gets back to real time of living, practiced and experienced.

THERE IS NO STORY, NARRATION OR PLOT, ALL IMAGES – OLD AND NEW – FLOW LIKE WATER. FASTER AND SLOWER, DEPENDING ON THE SENTIMENTAL WEIGHT OF THE IMAGE THAT PRECEEDS THEM. THEY FIND THEIR AESTHETIC AND DRAMATURGICAL MEANING IN CONTACT WITH THEIR PHYSICAL BODIES, WITH THEIR LIGHT MELANCHOLIA. THUS GATHERED, THEY EXPOSE THEMSELVES TRULY NAKED, RESTRICTED IN NEW AND ATYPICAL TIMES OF FORMAL COMPOSITION. ONE AFTER THE OTHER THEY PASS ON THE BATON OF ARTISTIC PAST, FROM ALIVES TO DEADS AND THEAN AGAIN TO ALIVES, FROM THE NUMEROUS HAMLETS TO AFRICAN DIDO, FROM OVIDIAN CHAOS TO VIRGILIAN AENEIS TILL THE RESTICTED TABLEAUX OF THE FIRST REHERSALS OF PROMESSI SPOSI. THESE ARE, IN FACT, REFRACTIONS OF IMAGOTURGY, OF IMAGOTURGIES IN WHICH THE SENSITIVE ACTORS MIRRORED THEMSELVES LIVE, A TABLEAU OF IMAGES AND SOUNDS SHAPED BY THE ARTISTIC EXPERIENCING ON THE SCREEN OF TIME. ONLY ONE VOICE IN THE BEGINNING, THE VOICE-OFF OF DANIELA, UNFORGETTABLE ACTRESS, FROM DANTONS TOD BY GEORG BÜCHNER.
