Lenz Fondazione | Maria Federica Maestri | Francesco Pititto

Büchner, Hölderlin, Lenz, Kleist, Rilke, Dostoevskij, Majakovskij, Shakespeare, Goethe, Grimm, Andersen, Calderón de la Barca, Genet, Lorca, Bacchini, Ovidio, Virgilio, Manzoni, d’Annunzio: these are the authors that marked Lenz’s monographic and long-standing projects, starting back in 1985.
The recent projects of contemporary creative performance are the result of an in-depth artistic resarch into visual, filmic, spatial, dramathurgical and auditory arts. In a convergent aesthetic between interpretative loyalty to the script, visual radicality in filmic creation, and originality in conceptual extremism with artistic installations, Lenz’s work rewrites the philosophical tensions and aesthetic unease of the contemporary into a visionary language.
Francesco Pititto is in charge of the translation, dramathurgical reformation, and treatment of images, who also directs alongisde Maria Federica Maestri. The scenery and costumes are made by Maria Federica Maestri, noted by critics for her work on the “dramathurgy of matter”, and for her system of visual signs that constitute her personal “design-acted”. Andrea Azzali creates original music; an experimental musician who focuses on electronic composition, he’s also a resident artist and teacher of sound design. Lenz expresses forms of art that are recognized as some of the most original and rigorous in Italian and European theatrical research.
Their works are characterized by an unstoppable inquiry into contemporary language. In the first phase of its artistic path, Lenz has reworked the greats and classics, recapturing the poetic impulses into contemporary visions. In recent times, the heart of poetry is a visual and malleable research: theatrical action is wedged between visual writing and the flexible creation of space, which wants to become an autonomous artistic installation. The performative action is enhanced by the exceptional nature of the actors, artistic reagents to the creative text.
Lenz has curated the artistic and organizational direction of the International Festival for contemporary creation Natura Dèi Teatri since 1996. An articulate project named Pratiche di Teatro characterizes Lenz in the field of visual and theatrical formation. Pratiche di Teatro Sociale, on the other hand, is about the methods of theatrical, visual, and musical sensibilization, and foresees the creation of integrative workshops made to help those with intellectual or mental disabilities. In addition to this intense formative activity, there are also the workshops and activities geared towards schools and universities.

Le Moire | Alessandro Bedosti

Interested in investigating new forms of language, the Teatro delle Moire has participated in many milieus and experiences of creation and representation, so that its productions cannot be classified in any specific category and can only be ascribed to research. The shows staged by the company are characterized by a non-narrative approach focusing on the creation of images and figures, presences that appear in a surprising way and are emancipated from the concept of interpretation. Another aspect that distinguishes the company is a taste for paradox and a surreal dimension. Since 1999, in Milan the Teatro delle Moire has also handled the artistic direction of the Danae Festival.

Alessandro Bedosti is an actor, dancer and performer. In his artistic career, started in the early 90s, he has worked with many leading figures of Italian and European theatre research (Michele Abbondanza, Antonella Bertoni, Monica Francia, Paola Bianchi, Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio). In the last few years, thanks to his intense studying experience with the butoh dancer Masaki Iwana, he has committed himself to the creation of short dance portraits both as author and as dancer (Senza titolo – 2009, Quando vedremo un tuo ballo? – 2010, Per favore aprite le tende – 2012, Das Spiel – 2014).

Tihana Maravich
Tihana Maravić is a theatrical scholar, performing arts curator and cultural operator. In 2008, she obtained a PhD in Theatre and Cinema Studies at Bologna University. She focuses her research mainly on the relationship between art and spirituality and on the comparative studies between the history of religion and the anthropology and the semiology of the actor-performer. She is the founder and the artistic director of BLITZ. International performing arts festival in Rovinj, Croatia. Since 2013 she is responsible of project and communication management of the collective Ateliersi and of the pluriartistic cultural centre Atelier Sì in Bologna, Italy.

MK | Michele Di Stefano

MK (established 1999) is considered as one of the most lively choreographic research ensemble of the Italian scene, with performances in Europe, Asia and South America. It has been hosted by festivals and museums, galleries as the Ethnographic National Museum and the Ara Pacis in Rome, the BiennaleDanza in Venice, the Museion Bolzano, the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon among the others. Among its lasts production and choreographic researches: the works Robinson (staged as guest performance at the 2016 NID Platform) Impressions d’Afrique, Hey, or the performances SUB, Fronterizo, Veduta and the Bali Dance  Platform (Santarcangelo Festival 2014 and 2015). MK has been supported by MIBACT Italian Ministry of Culture since 2010.

Ginevra Panzetti | Enrico Ticconi

Ginevra Panzetti and Enrico Ticconi, based in Berlin and Torino, are working as a duo since 2008. Their artisic research interlaces dance, performance and visual art. Both graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and attended Stoà, School for rhythmic movement and philosophy in Cesena, led by Claudia Castellucci. In 2010 they moved to Germany and delved into individual, but mutually complementary paths: Ginevra studied Media Art at Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst (HGB) in Leipzig and Enrico Dance, Context, Choreography at Hochschulübergreifendes Zentrum Tanz (HZT) in Berlin. Aside from their projects, Enrico works as a dancer for choreographers such as Kat Válastur, Dewey Dell, Lea Moro and Adam Linder while Ginevra designs contemporary jewels under her own label Tegumenti.

Opera | Vincenzo Schino

Opera is a performing arts research group that started in 2006 with a production of the same name. Vincenzo Schino (director, visual artist) and Marta Bichisao (dancer, choreographer), partners in art and life, lead the group. The group has been reconfigured over the years both for artistic and manpower reasons. Some people have been with us from the start, while others crossed our path for just a few productions or days. In its ten years of activity, the group has performed at top Italian theater festivals, and partnered in contemporary events, such as the Triennial in Milan, and the Fortress Albornoz, part of the Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto. It production Sleep won the Lia Lapini and Linea d’Ombra prizes in 2010. It was among the groups selected for representing Italian theater in Moscow in 2011. Opera has been the focus of numerous articles and close-ups published in national and specialized print media. Students in Italy and France have chosen the work of Opera as a thesis topic. The group is presently based in Umbria.

Monica Bianchi – artist in residence

Monica Bianchi starts working in theatre with Lenz Rifrazioni and continues with Giorgio Rossi and Raffaella Giordano of Sosta Palmizi, Roberto Castello, Japigia Teatro, l’Impasto, Annalisa D’Amato. She founds Ninachaos, a trio who creates Inland and makes its debut in Santarcangelo. Abito 101 is a solo production with Europa Teatri. With Lenz Fondazione she appears in L’isola dei cani, I Promessi Sposi and Bruno Longhi. She is a resident artist at Rift Theatre in London where she presents an original version of Bruno Longhi. In Natura Dèi Teatri she appeared for the first time with Woo. She collaborates with Michela Lucenti and Balletto Civile.

Dom | Leonardo Delogu | Valerio Sirna

DOM- is a project born from the collaboration between the two artists Leonardo Delogu and Valerio Sirna. It explores the language of performing arts, focusing on the relationship between body and landscape. It is involved in the transmission of specific inhabiting practices, linked to the time and space of the artistic creation and the common planning. DOM- conceives performative events, workshops, walks, writings, gardens, installations, videos, photo-reportages. The last creation, The walking man, is now touring through Italy and Europe, while a new edition of the urban explorations Mamma Roma is soon to begin. Throughout 2017 DOM- is dealing with collective projects, built around the practice of collaboration. Corale is the co-creation of a ritual meant for the earthquake area in Umbria, produced by Teatro Stabile dell’Umbria. Foresta is a collective project about urban regeneration through artistic practices, produced by Terni Festival Internazionale della Creazione Contemporanea.

Claudio Rocchetti – artist in residence

The work of Claudio Rocchetti is a deep plunge into thick sound, investigating its innermost workings. Using a variety of devices such as turntables, audio cassettes, samplers, radios, and microphones, often incorporating other objects and traditional instruments, Berlin-based Rocchetti builds compelling structures that employ sound as sheer matter, mass, and impact. The tarry, mesmerizing hues that characterize his “music objects” are grounded in layers of sound detritus.

From techno rhythms to slow melodies, edgy constructions to samples of choirs and strings, Rocchetti builds layered structures of elusive elements whose sources are often hidden, and enacts a mirror play which may cause dizziness.

Robin Rimbaud aka Scanner – artist in residence

British artist Robin Rimbaud traverses the experimental terrain between sound, space, image and form, creating absorbing, multi-layered sound pieces that twist technology in unconventional ways. His work connects the points between a bewilderingly diverse array of genres – a partial list would include sound design, film scores, computer music, digital avant garde, contemporary composition, large-scale multimedia performances, product design, architecture, fashion design, rock music and jazz. In 2008 he composed the music for Lenz Rifrazioni’s Consegnaci, bambina, i tuoi occhi.

Fiorella Iacono – artist in residence

Fiorella Iacono was born in Modena and graduated in Philosophy with a thesis  about William Burroughs’s poetics. Since the beginning she has catalogued Cesare Leonardi’s photographs for his study of Modena Cathedral, published in the Atlante (Panini, 1985). She holds numerous exhibitions in  various festivals as Fotografia Europea and solo shows in different galleries in Italy. Her last project Numi was  launched in Genova (Studio Incantation) and eventually shown in Reggio Emilia (Fotografia Europea)  and Modena (Galleria Gate26A).
