Solo Voice & Electronics
Maja Solveig Kjelstrup Ratkje

It screeches, caws, groans, screams, bellows, drones, thunders on wonderful pitches or wanders along around unexplored depths: unbelievable. A wild breathe turns into raging and sumptuous shouts, bizarre laughs become airy melodies and obscure clacks faintly turn into soft whispers. These sounds cannot be given off by a single voice – or at least a male voice. Nevertheless, these wacky vocal cords belong to the extraordinary artist Maja Solveig Kjelstrup Ratkje, who is able to extract out of herself every little element of her voice. It is absolutely clear that between what she does as a singer and her life there is a very close connection. The Norwegian artist adores developing her life taking part in adventurous experiences which make her life as adaptable as her voice is: before it resounds like a pleasing singing and then turns again into noise or into improvised musical processes which are completely different from the prior.
