
SAN MICHAEL AVENUE
Video installation + performance.
Permanent project of Lenz Foundation of contemporary performative creations, seminars, and days of public reflection dedicated to the themes of resistance and the European tragedy during the Nazi-fascist dictatorships.
Viale San Michele. Before the cellars are painted intends to shape the cellars of Palazzo Rolli in viale San Michele, headquarters of the prison and a place of torture of the Gestapo during the Second World War.
Director's notes
The video installation will be made up of photographic images made, In the 1990, At Palazzo Rolli in Viale San Michele and by the sound off of an interview built in the same year. On the indication of the architect Pietro Zanlari and for the purpose of conservation of historical memory, The graffiti of the prisoners locked up in the cellars of the building were all photographed. Being the entire building in renovation this important find would be, shortly thereafter, was canceled during construction works. The images of the graffiti were then used for the staging of Bruno Longhi, theatrical work of research and historical memory presented in different versions from 1990, dedicated to one of the main managers of the conspiracy and partisan movement of Parma. In the same year, an interview with two sisters by Bruno Longhi was also carried out, in which the life of his brother was told and, in particular, The vain search for his body for burial. Il 14 January 1945 Bruno Longhi was captured and died torture a few days later, His body was never found.
By this installation we intend to give shape to the memory of the cellars of Palazzo Rolli in Viale San Michele in Parma where, in July 1944, A detached command of the Germanic Safety Police was established (It's not-sd). On the mezzanine floor there were the premises of the guard body, On the first floor the offices with the rooms for interrogations and torture, nelle canteen the one. Duties of the Sipo-Sd were the hunting and deportation of the Jews, The repression of political opponents and common crime, the intelligence activity. The policemen acted in close collaboration with the black brigade, they habitually dressed civil clothes and used cars without marks. Assisted by a dense cobweb of informants, In a few months they managed to infiltrate the clandestine network of the Resistance with over eighty arrests. At the beginning of March the patriots Ines Bethis, Alceste Benoldi and Gavino Cherchi, After days of torture, They were killed on the shore at the Po and thrown into the river.
